So Media Group Offers Western Australian Brands Alternative Advertising Opportunities

In the wake of The West Australian – Sunday Times merger, So Media Group and other Perth independent media outlets encourage local marketers to explore alternative advertising and media opportunities.

Perth new media start-up So Media Group (publisher of this website) acknowledges today the Australian Consumer Competition Commission (ACCC) decision to approve the takeover by Seven West Media (SWM) of and Sunday Times newspaper.

The ACCC’s statement today references that advertisers have more opportunities to funnel marketing dollars toward “digital media” as a key part of its approval decision.

So Media Group – owners of So Perth and Tweet Perth – believes the ACCC is right to suggest brands in WA have more opportunities to reach local audiences, as print media declines.

“Most of the advertisers we spoke to … are spending less on print newspapers than a few years ago and are finding alternative ways of reaching target audiences, including via digital media,” ACCC chairman Rod Sims said.

“We are concerned the merger may result in less diversity in the Perth media landscape and job losses in newsrooms, however we also see great opportunity for new media start-ups to flourish,” Ryan Northover, Co-Founder of So Media Group said.

So Perth, reaches hundreds of thousands of Western Australians every week, across and affiliated social networks.

So Media Group operates and social networks, plus TweetPerth on Twitter.

The So Perth network also brings together a coalition of dozens of Perth independent content creators and influencers.

“We invite local advertisers looking for alternative media opportunities to learn more about So Media Group and our affiliated influencers,” Co-Founder Adam Barrell said.

Through So Media Group, Perth brands can reach and engage Western Australians, in more diverse, authentic and micro-targeted ways, at a lower cost compared to traditional media.

So Media Group owns and associated social media accounts, publishing and aggregating innovative content aimed at Western Australians aged 18 – 39. The network is set to expand to other Australian territories in the near future.

So Media Group is co-founded by Adam Barrell and Ryan Northover.
